Well is official! Matt and I have officially both been 25 years old for a month and a half now. You know, crazy side fact, statistics, research and data says that those who are the same age are more likely to have a happy, successful, satisfying marriage because they are more likely to find common ground with their spouse in all areas of life since they are more likely to have similar timelines, goals, values and even interests. But then again, thats not where we put our stock in the success rate of our marriage and we wouldn’t recommend that you put yours there either, because the only common ground you truly need is Jesus. We both know that if you have Him, no matter how much the odds are stacked up against you, your marriage can and will make it, if you both dedicate your lives to completely following and obeying Him as your Lord and Savior.
But even though this post is about age it is not about being the same age. Its about Blairs 25th Birthday Month and how we celebrated!
I have to say that this has been the most thoughtful, sincere, surprising, love filled birthday I have ever experienced in my 25 years of living! From start to finish, and then even after that, Gods love came through in such a tangible way thanks to the friends and family that genuinely love and care about me, not out of obligation but out of a true feelings they express on a daily basis, especially Matt. That being said I have to give some credit to my hubby. I really can not even begin to explain what an incredible job he did, not only making me feel, but making sure I know how loved I am by him and everyone else we hold so close to our hearts. I don’t even think I know the depths of all the trouble he went through this year, because thats kinda how it works in surprises, which makes me that much more grateful because I know there had to have been a lot of unseen things that he did to make my birthday as amazing and unforgettable as it was!
Surprise Birthday Party:
To kick off my birthday month Matt planned a surprise party and invited our closest family and friends to come over to our home and engulf me in one of my most favorite things, time spent with those who we love and likewise love us.
We have a bit of a birthday tradition in our family. We go out to eat on someones birthday and the birthday boy or girl gets to choose where we eat. I’m sure it’s not that original but that doesn’t make it any less fun, or any less ours. So, on October 30th when it came time to make the decision where it was that we were going to eat, there was only one place that would hit the spot, Eli’ Barbecue. I know it’s not super fancy, but then again neither am I. I’m a classic girl who enjoys the simple joys in life, like sitting outside on a nice, sun soaked autumn day while enjoying the company of my most favorite person in the entire world, my husband, laughing and having some good discussion over yummy, messy, tangy, finger-licking good BBQ and a nice ice-cold Coca-Cola to finish it off into perfection.
Also, little side note for anyone living in the Cincinnati/Greater Northern Kentucky area, or has a Graeters location near them, you can get a free sundae with no limitations on the number of scoops or toppings from Graeters on your birthday! Who needs birthday cake with that deal!?! Of course after having Eli’s BBQ I went with a modest one dip, one topping choice. I guess that is one sign of maturity, knowing how much I can handle and not gorging myself on sweets, to point it is no longer enjoyable, like I would have at the age of 10. lol
THE KITCHEN-AID PROFESSIONAL 5 QUART STAND MIXER!!!!!
How do I say this!?! Matthew Clark Pomeroy knows me better then anyone else on this entire planet! If the fact that he can tell simply by the inflection, or pause, in my voice over the phone or the way I walk through the door, sit and the table, or get out of the car the type of day I have had then the fact that he knows what type of things like speak to how well this man knows me. How much time he has taken to study me and learn my ways on a daily basis. Long story, but I am not a list maker when it comes to gifts. I’m not a fussy girl. You can ask my family and friends. When it comes to gifts I don’t even give lists because I really am already so thankful for everything I have in my life and feel that there really is nothing that could make it better. I am a contented soul. Thats not to say that things are bad and wanting to have nice things is evil. I just personally am not super concerned with material stuff. Never really have been. I have a warm bed and a loving husband who cuddle with me to sleep in next to me. I have a great job that is rooted in the talents and passions that God has placed in my heart and will spur us on toward our larger life goals. I have people around me who want the best for me and show that through their love and loyalty. Most of all I have a God who sent His son so I could be forgiven and live. I was not raised to make lists but instead to be grateful for whatever I was given because it is the thought that counts not the gift itself. So on that note the value of a gift to me is more in knowing that someone sincerely cares then what is inside the box. This outlook has made me a pretty gracious receiver. Really, you can’t go wrong with me as long as the meaning is pure, I truly will love whatever someone gifts me. But to know that Matt has simply taken enough interest in me to know what would absolutely blow my mind says so much to me about how well he listens to even the slightest things I say and takes account for even the most minute details in my life. You see this Kitchen-aid, though it is a very thoughtful, super nice gift all on its own, goes deeper then just making my baking habit more easier. It is meant to help me start back on my journey to bake my way through the pie section of my Nana’s cookbook, The Joy of Cooking, that she gave me as a present.
A unexpected surprise birthday visit from Aunt B & Uncle Doug:
On a chilly November Monday evening, a couple weeks after my birthday, Matt and I had just finished up dinner. I was about to get into my pj’s and settle down next to him on the couch for a movie night when Matt had the brilliant idea to go out for ice cream, which of course I agreed to. He said that he wasn’t ready to go out just yet though because he was very full and wanted a little while to digest so he could fully enjoy the treat. So we decided to waited and I held off the urge to jump into my pajamas. After about an hour and a half or so, and me asking a few times if he was finally ready to leave, Matt then decided that he no longer felt like going out. So I decided to get into my pj’s and make myself some super sweet tea since my sweettooth had been activated. We were sitting on the couch all cozy, sipping our tea and watching a movie when we heard a knock at the door. Matt looked at me puzzled as to who it could be and asked me to go put the dogs away in their cages while he let in our “mystery guest” lol When I came back downstairs, much to my surprise, there was my Aunt B & Uncle Doug! They had wanted to come in town for the surprise birthday party Matt threw me a couple weeks earlier, and were planning to, but when the plans for the party were shifted to better fit our schedule they were unable to come because of other obligations. It all turned out for the very best though because “The Three Amigos” planned another surprise birthday celebration for when Aunt B & Uncle Doug came in town a couple weeks later for a business conference. So there I stood, stunned to see two of my favorite family members on the entire face of this earth! After giving eachother big hugs I ran upstairs to change out of my pajama’s so we could go get Ice cream lol Turns out Matt was trying to keep me from getting into my pj’s because he had plans for us to all go out for more birthday ice cream that night!! It was such a great surprise and we had an even greater time just hanging out with one of our favorite couples and marriage role models around!
So there you have it! The entirety of how we celebrated Blair 25th Birthday! Yow know, age is a strange thing. As we get older, we grow in maturity and depth of character, thanks to the experiences we encounter, both easy and hard, but we somehow remain young at heart. The love and safety we feel when surrounded by our most true and loyal loved ones and thrill that comes when blowing out birthday candles while making a wish is the same as it was when we were little. I guess there are certain things we never get too big for.
What are some of your favorite birthday traditions in your family? We would love to hear about it in the comment section below!
Much love & prayer,
Matt & Blair
