2014 was a big year for significant birthdays in our family. We both turned 25, Blairs mom turned 60, our Aunt B turned 50, our Brother John turned 40, Mawmaw turned 80 and to finish the year off our sister Carrieli turned sweet 16!
It’s a bit surreal for us at times to think about Carrieli as a young woman because we have watched her grow beautifully into that role. We still remember that wide eyed, long black haired, excitable, fun loving young girl that barely came up to our belly buttons. And even though she’s still all of those things, except for the height, she definitely carries herself with an air of grace and poise only a true woman could possess. There are so many reasons why we are so proud of her and with each passing day only become more proud of the person she is becoming, but out of all the reasons we could name the one that holds the most significants to us is without a doubt the way she carries herself in the knowledge that she is a beloved daughter of God’s and the one that Jesus loves so much He died for her. To watch her grow in that most important relationship and to truly develop of love of her own for our Lord has brought more joy to us then any other accomplishment she has achieved.
That being said, one of the special traditions that we have with Carrieli is going to see the most recent Hunger Games movie when it first hits theaters. This fun siblings date that we do goes all the way back to the first year that Matt and I got married when we started reading the books together. Once we heard they were going to make movies out of the series we knew we just had to go see them together!
So to celebrate this extra special birthday of hers we decided we wanted to do something extra special for her because of how much she means to us. So we decided to take her to see the midnight premiere of The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay and then have a sleep over at our house afterwards since it was just a couple weeks after she would officially turn 16!
All in all we might be a little in disbelief that Carrieli has been officially 16 for a few months now and is driving, which she is a total rockstar at! But one thing definitely out ways that sense of “Wow, we’re getting old shock” and that’s the fact that we absolutely love having her as our sister and friend! And we love every second that we get to spend with her sharing our lives with her and creating memories of friendship and family that will hopefully last a lifetime.
We love you Kiki Di! And happy 16th once again!
Much love & prayer,
Matt & Blair
