1. Homemade Easter Eggs, UK Final Four and a good visit with family
Our brother John and nieces, Mary and Evie, came in town to spend Easter with us as well as the rest of the family this year! Having kids around during holidays makes things so much more fun and brings a new life to events that otherwise isn’t really there. We literally haven’t dyed Easter Eggs since we were in grade school so we thought it might be a fun crafty type thing to do with our nieces while they were in town! Mary and Evie were regular seasoned pro’s a dying Easter Eggs. Seriously, they had mastered the skill and therefore made great teachers for Matt and I. lol Of course though we decided to think outside the box and decided to experiment with a few new ideas that none of us had tried. We made Ombre colored eggs, mixed the colors to create fun variations of the different shades and Mary even mastered the tie-dye style eggs by using a paper towel and dropping the color onto certain parts of the eggs! After all that fun creating though we had to take a pit stop and go out for an ice cream run to UDF down the street before the rest of the family came over to join us and watch UK go to the final 4!
2. Easter Dinner
This was our 2nd year hosting an Easter dinner at our home for both sides of our family! Sad to say, but with busy schedules and hectic lives, Easter dinner kind of went by the way side in both of our families, until we moved back last year and decided to bring the tradition back to life. We feel that Easter is just as important as Thanksgiving and Christmas, if not more so, because it’s the day celebrating the resurrection of our Jesus and the payment and forgiveness of every single sin when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. If it wasn’t for that day then everything would be for nothing. Because of this we felt it was important to invite our families into our own Easter Dinner celebration of Jesus and what He has done, and continues to do, for us.
3. Gram’s Surprise Birthday Dinner
One of the most kind-hearted, generous, and selfless women we know turned 88 years young on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, our Gram! To celebrate a life lived in love and service to her God and family we all got together and planned a little surprise family dinner for her on her birthday! I don’t think there are any amount of words that could describe just how surprised and how touched she was by this gesture. She’s always saying that all she wants is time with her family for her birthday and that’s exactly what we gave her this year, along with some yummy food and of course thoughtful gifts. 🙂
4. Do It Herself Girls Night Out
Well we did it again! My mother in-love and I went to Home Depots Do It Herself Night Out!.. And this time we learned how to make a paver planter all on our own that now sits in front of our garage! I really do enjoy just hanging out and getting some good quality one on one time with her. She is such a smart, fun woman to be with and I am so thankful to have her in my life as my mother in-love. Of course no one is perfect but she is pretty amazing and I am one blessed woman to call her my friend, mentor and sister in Christ.
5. Matt and Paiges Birthday Celebration
We had a fun night out on the town with our friends to celebrate some very dear friends birthdays, Matt and Paige Rauch. With family, jobs, kids etc. its a rarity for get all of us out on the same night, at the same time and in the same location. The low key people we are, we usually just opt to go to one another’s house for a game night, which don’t get me wrong are seriously a blast, but it was fun to get out together as a group and experience the Friday night life… until around 11pm when we all ran out of tokens, were tired and ready to go back to our own homes and go to bed lol
6. International Nanny Association Training Day
About half way through the month Blair went to her very first International Nanny Association Training Day hosted by a great organization she is affiliated with called Cincynanny. It was a webinar where she was able to learn some of the newest techniques in the field from some of the most esteemed individuals when it comes to child care and development. Of course it wasn’t all educational though. Afterwards she went out with a group of other local professional nannies for lunch and some girl/nanny chat. Such a fun time!
7. First Furniture Purchase
Well up until now we can say we have been blessed enough to not buy one stitch of furniture our entire (almost 4 years!!! Woohoo!!) of marriage!! Every piece we had in our home was given to us by a close relative as a “wedding/your moving out, getting married young, are practically broke and are in need of furniture” gift when we first got married. Moving into our first home we decided to treat ourselves and buy a new bed and our first official furniture purchase not only of our marriage but ever! And we felt like what better place to start then a bed! Though it may sound ordinary this was a very exciting venture for us! We had never chosen a bed before, and little did we know there were SO many choices! We spent a couple of date nights bed shopping at local furniture stores and basically fell in love, as well as pretty much fell asleep, on a dream of a King size memory foam mattress at Sears! We both agreed it was like laying on a cloud! And we were sold! We also decided to go ahead and upgrade to some nice 1000 count Egyptian Cotton sheets, a Down Comforter, new Down Pillows and some pretty cozy throw pillows for decoration! Did we splurge, yes. Was it agreed upon, work, saved and budgeted for, definitely yes! But having a our bedroom be the most warm, inviting, cozy and romantic room in our home is something that is important to us, so we decided it was worth it. I guess we all make our own choices as to what matters most to us, and when it comes to our home, our bedroom being a personal haven inside of our haven is one of those things that matter to us.
When we found and purchased our house it was in the thicket of winter. Therefore the curb appeal at that time was beautiful white blankets of snow that made the barn red shutters pop against the rustic brick. This month it was been so much fun to watch our home come alive on the outside with beautiful. bright flowers of almost every shade, fresh green grass and tall, strong trees that burst with colors of their own. When we bought our house we didn’t know we were getting such a visual treat on the exterior! It really is gorgeous! God, and the previous owners, were even good enough to include a few flowers that we had always wanted and planned on planting ourselves when we bought a home such as Lila bushes, Peonies, Garden Roses, Blackberry Bushes, A Saucer Magnolia Tree and of course Blair’s most favorite flower an assortment of Hydrangeas including her favorite blue hued ones!
9.Paige’s 23rd Birthday Dinner
If you haven’t noticed already April is a pretty big month for birthdays in our family. We have both friends and family members who call April their birthday month. One of those special people is Blair’s sister Paige. She turned 23 on the 24th! So that means next year is her golden birthday since she’ll be 24th on the 24th! This year though we celebrated though by going out to dinner at The Melting Pot. The last time we were there together was almost ten years ago when Blair turned 16! My mom did such a beautiful job and planned an absolutely beautiful dinner for an absolutely beautiful girl.
Well that was our April all summed up in a quick little nut shell. We hope your month was just joyous as ours!
Much love & prayer,
Matt & Blair
