Does anyone else feel like June was forever ago, or is it just us? So many things have taken place in the past month that demanded our attention that it feels like we’ve turn around and not only is June a month ago, but July is coming to an end and August, as well as our 4th or Fruit and Flower Wedding Anniversary as we affectionally nicknamed it, is quickly approaching! We decided back in January that instead of writing a bunch of posts about different events that go on in our day to day life we would write one post a month recapping all the fun eventful things that took place in our family! And until June we had been pretty successful with keeping it all up to date for the most part… and then life in the summertime hit and things got hectic to say the least lol.
So, without further rambling here’s what the month of June looked like for our family this year!
8th Date-a-versary – We kicked off the beginning of the month, like we always do, with our date-a-versary on June 4th! This year marked our 8th year of being together! When we think about how far God has brought us together in this life, what He has accomplished through both of us in and through our relationship for His Kingdom purposes it just feels so surreal! Is this really real life?! Has it really been 8 years already!?! Did God really use these situations to show us just how much we mean to Him and to renew our lives for His glory, His purpose, to set our hearts literally on fire for who He is and what He’s all about?! Did God really work in all these amazing ways through out the past 8 years to tell His story of love, grace and redemption through these two free-spirited youngsters, through the two of us?! Without a doubt, yes He sure did! When we come to that humbling realization all over again there’s only enough room in our hearts for thankfulness. Thankfulness for all Gods goodness.
A Visit From Our Family in Sweden – Around the middle of the month we had a couple relatives from Sweden from Matt’s side of the family come visit us! It was so wonderful to be able to meet Magnus and Agneta for the first time! They haven’t seen Matt since he was a little boy. So to see their amazement at who he has become and all that he has accomplished in the last 20 or so years was really fun to see! In true American fashion we had a grill out complete with Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Hot Dogs, Salad, Corn On The Cob and of course Watermelon!! Then as an added bonus to the end of a yummy meal we decided to introduce the whole Pomeroy/Sutton/Landqvist family to a favorite among native Kentucky families, Black Berry Jam Cake! It was my first time ever making my Great-Great-Great Grandma’s recipe! I really didn’t believe my mom or Aunt Charlotte when they told me how difficult the Caramel Icing would be and did I ever find out first hand! Aunt Charlotte said she once tried at least 10 times to get it right and eventually gave up and went to bed because she was tired! lol In the end though, as always my families recipe was a crowd pleaser, even if it didn’t look as nearly as beautiful as the one served at our annual family reunion down on the farm.
We had such a great time getting to know Magnus and Agneta a little better. Their both such sweet, warm, open hearted people! They were even generous enough to invite us to come and visit them in Sweden next year, or whenever we are able to and we definitely look forward to that someday in the future! 🙂
Girls Trip – A couple months ago a few of my closest friends from high school came up with the brilliant idea to take a quick weekend trip to Lake Barkley for a girls getaway to relax and hangout. It just seems like the older we get the more difficult it is to slow down and get together with career/schedule changes, moves, marriages and babies on the way. So this trip was a way for us to be intentional in our friendships to spend time and connect with one another. We laughed. We talked. We stayed up late playing card games. We laid on the beach and adventured around the lake! We ate Banana Pudding! lol It really was such a needed time for all of us to just be together. 🙂
House Warming Party – Near the beginning of this month we threw a pretty casual housewarming party. We thought it was a good way to open our home to our friends and family who had been curious about our new place as well as a way to better get to know our neighbors and better start to establish a relationship with them. It was definitely a hit in the neighborhood and really did help to catapult many new, good relationships with the people we live around! Pretty much everyone who stopped by commented on what a great idea it was to get everyone together and how they really appreciated us opening our home to them. We would highly recommend hosting an open house warming party if you have recently moved into a new neighborhood and want to better establish connections and begin to make a difference in the lives of the people that God has placed around you. 🙂
Celebrated Mary’s 10th Birthday – One of the most considerate, sweet and sensitive girls that we know turned 10 during the month of June! Our niece Mary! We absolutely adore our Mary! We love all the fun she brings to our family! We love that we get to be apart of her life in such a special way, as her Uncle and Aunt! We love that our little Sweet P is going to have a cool older cousin to look up to and play with! 🙂 On top of all those amazing reasons why we love our Miss Mary, we also love that she’s turning 10! Turning 10 is kind of a big deal! It’s double digits! It’s the start of 5th grade and being the oldest kid in the school! So we had to get together to celebrate her on her special birthday day! 🙂 It was such a great night filled with good conversation and quality family time just like our sweet Mary!
Fathers Day – There has been a few changes already with our little one on the way! One of them being that we celebrated our very First Fathers Day this year! Some might say “Hey wait a minute?! You haven’t had your baby yet! So why are you celebrating Fathers Day already? And wouldn’t your first Fathers Day be next year?” Good point! And were glad you asked! 🙂 Matt and I both believe that life starts at the same moment of conception, or as Doctor Seuss would say “A person is a person, no matter how small!” Standing by that belief we both already view ourselves as parents to this little gift God’s given us, even though it’s still being crafted to perfection at the moment. :)Even though our Sweet P hasn’t made her grand appearance into the world just yet, it’s still a living, breathing human being who can hear what we say to her, taste the food we feed/share with her, move to make herself more comfortable and even see whats going on around her! From the moment we found out she was apart of our family Matt immediately took on the role of being this sweet little girls daddy. He talks to her everyday, prays for her every night. He tells her how loved she is by her parents. He’s been reading all types of parenting/pregnancy/fatherhood book and studying what God’s word has to say about the topic to better prepare for her. He’s been working hard to provide for her now and save for her future. He’s been encouraging and supportive of her momma, and has made sure that both his girls are in good health. He’s even been concerned with preparing a space for her in our home and went as far as to start renovating the entire nursery so it will be ready when she arrives. In my eyes, and in the eyes of God, Matt is for all intense and purposes, by the very definition a father. And to tope it all off he’s been the best human example of one I’ve ever witnessed! He takes his role seriously, and has been doing an amazing job at following God into this new space! And I’m proud of him! I’m proud to say he’s my husband and that our little girl has the most loving, attentive, thoughtful, caring daddy in her life. So we celebrated that! 🙂 And how, you might ask… By getting up at 6am to drive to Florida! Let me clarify. Matt got up at 6 am to drive us to Florida, while we rode shot gun. That’s what he chose to do on his day. One word to describe my husband in that moment: Selfless.
We also gave him a gift too. He had been really wanting a manly diaper bag to carry all of our daughters supplies in when they go out on their daddy-daughter dates (again can I say my heart melts that he think about that! Anticipates and plans for it with excitement and enthusiasm even!!!) So when he found the one he liked on Etsy. com we ordered it for him and filled it up with all the baby essentials! He was so surprised and excited! It’s still in the mail because it’s a custom made bag, but I have a feeling it will be here before their first daddy-daughter date! 🙂
Florida Visit – We ended the first month of summer on a fun note by going to Florida to visit our Nana! Blair comes from a pretty big family of all girls! So you can imagine what a blast it is to go down every year with everyone! Let’s just say we get a lot of good, quality family bonding time in, as well as couple rounds of competitive card games! lol But with everyone getting older, getting summer jobs and such schedules were really hard to correlate this year. So we decided to just go down on our own. Don’t get us wrong. We love going with the whole gang but it was really nice to go a spend some one on one time with Nana just the three of us. In a family the size of ours that is a rarity. So it was nice to make some memories with just her. 🙂 We had such a great time with her from hanging out at the beach, to cooking dinner, to talking about our excitement for this sweet new little life God is bringing into our family! It was definitely a trip to remember and the best way to end our month of June! 🙂
We hope your first month of summer was just as fun filled as ours! Stay tuned to hear all about what July was like in just a few short days lol 🙂
Much love & prayer,
Matt & Blair
