Annabelle’s 2nd month of life has come and gone and now we are making our way into her 3rd! It’s hard to believe that our baby is over 8 weeks, going on 9 weeks old already! Here are all the highlights from her 2nd month of life! 🙂
Measurements – Our little Valentine weighed in at a small 9.15oz this month and was 23.5 inches long. Annabelle has went back up to the 85th percentile for height, and has dropped to the 13th percentile for weight. Our doctor isn’t concerned though because she doesn’t look skinny, isn’t acting malnourished or starved and has all the right fat rolls in all the right places! lol We are going back for a weight check in a couple of weeks just to be on the safe side though and make sure that everything is still progressing as it should. Our doctor thinks that it’s probably just that Annabelle had a growth spurt in length and that her weight just hasn’t caught up yet, but that it should soon! So hopefully when we go back in two weeks the results from that check up will confirm that.
Best Moment – We were torn between two things that happened this month that really both were the best part of Annabelle’s entire 2nd month of life in our opinion. So we just decided it would be a tie since they’re both pretty awesome accomplishments in our book! The first is that Annabelle has started smiling at us when she sees us or when we smile at her. It is the best feeling when she looks at you and give you a genuine smile because she knows who you are and is honestly happy to see you and spend time with you! Matt and I could literally spend all day just smiling and talking to her and watching her face light up with enthusiasm and excitement as she responds to us! The second is that she started sleeping 8.5 hours through the night!! We’re not necessarily getting that much sleep though because by the time we actually finish feeding her, tucking her in, getting ourselves ready and settled in for the night and then check on her a couple more times it is definitely much later, but still we’re excited about it and feel it’s definitely a step in the right direction! So both different but equally great things!
Worst Moment – The worst part of this month would definitely have to be that she was diagnosed with Colic and so before she goes down for the night we spend about 3 hours rocking her, singing to her and pretty much doing everything we can to comfort her because her little gassy tummy is causing her pain. 😦 The good news is that for the most part as long as she is being held and rocked she really isn’t too fussy and seems to be able to deal with the discomfort. Also, they say Colic is supposed to end around 3 months. So hopefully this time next month things will be much different. Annabelle also got her first round of vaccines at her 2 month doctors appointment, which she did great with! It was harder on her momma though then it was her. Annabelle only let out one whimper and then as soon as the nurse was over and she was back in our arms being cuddled she was fine. Her momma on the other hand was a nervous wreck leading up to that Doctors visit as well as during it and cried more then she did. Again, hopefully these things get better with time. lol
Favorite Things – Out of all the new skills that Annabelle learned and is working on this month, her favorite thing to do still is just to cuddle. She is a lover and she loves to be loved on as well. 🙂 Seriously, out of all the babies I have cared for throughout the year, and there have been a lot, Annabelle is honestly the most snuggliest little one I have ever seen! She just loves her lovin’s lol She also has started to hold my hand while we nurse which is really sweet and there is an old vintage Clinique add of a girl with Strawberry Blonde hair surrounded by animals, that sits behind her rocking chair which she is really intrigued by lately as well. If she’s not looking at whoever is holding her then I guarantee that her gaze is fixed on that painting. She also really enjoys looking and batting at her little lambs that hang over her in the rock n’ play. Annabelle has also to really started to wiggle her hands and arms out of her swaddle while she is sleeping during her naps or at night. Since birth she’s always been a “sleep with her hands by her face” type of girl but she now will get them out of her swaddle completely and stretch them above her head lol She also has found her fingers and really enjoys to suck on them when she doesn’t have her pacifier handy.. and yes, we have given her pacifier back to her in the past month lol Annabelle’s favorite place to nap though is on her mommy or daddy. We don’t do it every nap time, and we aren’t co-sleeping with her, but it’s one of our favorite things to do as well. We also really enjoy our weekend mornings in bed together. After Annabelle is finished eating we will spend the entire Saturday morning in bed the three of us just cuddling together, talking to her and sipping coffee. It’s really relaxing and has made for some super sweet memories during her 2nd month of life. Last, but not least Annabelle has begun to blow spit bubbles or “wet raspberries” and she has started to really take note of her own reflection in the mirrors around our home and she really loves to stare back at herself in the hallway or bathroom mirrors or the little purple mirror that sits above her play gym.
Highlights – There was so many fun things that happened this month! For starters Annabelle and momma took their first trip out alone when we went to my 6 week Postpartum checkup, and since I was given the okay to resume all normal activities Annabelle and I have been taking walks down to the local park and around our neighborhood whenever the weather is nice enough for us to get out. We even had a really great spurt of 60 degree weather a couple weeks back so we took a family walk through one of the nature trails that is near our home! It was really beautiful and a lot of fun to get out and explore! Annabelle has also been much more alert and staying awake during the day for longer periods of time since she is getting such great nighttime sleep! She really has began to enjoy her play gym more and specifically loves this Rainbow Toucan, whom Matt and I named Sam, that hangs from one of the support beams. We think it’s all the colors on his beak that interest her! She’s even started raising her arms and kicking her feet around and will bat her hand towards her Toucan Sam when she sees him as if she is trying to grab him! She also started doing tummy time on a small pillow as well as on the floor all by herself! It’s really fun to lay on the floor with her while she does her tummy time and talk to her and watch as she smiles and “talks” back. Annabelle has definitely started to find her voice too! She isn’t super talkative but she does coo and make really cute sounds squeaks and squeals when you are talking to her or she finds something interesting. She also lets out these little grunts when she isn’t happy about something, like having to wait when we are getting her ready to feed lol We are really looking forward to her actually talking and getting to hear what her voice will sound like as it continues to develop. For right now though Matt and I both think it has a sweet sing-songy tone to it. 🙂 We also gave her, her first nail trim, and now are having to clip her nail every week because they grow so fast and her hair is getting longer! It’s still very fine but there is a lot more of it. 🙂 She’s also officially fitting into 0-3 month clothes now! She still fits into some of her newborn outfits as well but barely. In the next couple of weeks we’re pretty sure that we are going to be packing the rest of those little onsies up. Annabelle also experienced her first real snow storm, although she didn’t seem to be too impressed. She pretty much slept straight through it but we really enjoyed snuggling with her during it and showing her all the beautiful white landscape outside her bedroom window the next morning. 🙂 To finish up her 2 month of life Annabelle celebrated by getting together with our friends from our Bradley Class that we took while we were pregnant with her at a little reunion our wonderful friend, Bradley Instructor and Doula hosted. It was so much fun to see everyone and to hear all about their birth stories as well talk about how this new season is going, bond and sympathize with each other over first time parenthood things. Plus, it’s always fun to get to meet new little ones! 🙂
Much love & prayer,
Matt & Blair
