How is our Annabelle Jane already halfway to being a year old!?!? I can hardly believe it! And I know it’s not just us either. We were talking to some friends of ours that have daughters around the same age as Annabelle and none of us can believe how fast these past 6 months have flown by for all of our families! Everyone always tells you how fast time goes once you become a parent and you know it’s true but you really don’t realize it (or at least we didn’t) until you actually experience it first hand. Our theory on why is that there are just SO many beautiful, wonderful, special first time things going on every single day… and sometimes every single hour (or so it feels like that to us) that you are so busy soaking in each moment to the fullest that you possibly can because you know how fast it’s going to go by and before you know it they’ll be on to the next new exciting thing that they’re discovering that when you look back over the grand scheme of it all it just went by like a whirl wind. Kind of like the saying “time flies when you are having fun”. We both love where Annabelle is now though even though we miss the squishy, little sleepy newborn stages somedays. Experiencing parenthood for the past 6 months has definitely solidified for us that there really never is such a thing as being truly ready for the next season. What we’ve found to be true for us is that you just kind of have to take each day as savor it for what it is, and where you are together as a family, knowing that tomorrow will be a whole new day.. and possibly a whole new start to a whole new season. So we’ve been rocking and holding Annabelle a little longer, playing a little sillier and talking a little slower and sweeter this week friends. Because it goes by in a flash, and we know that. We know that we’re going to blink and she’s going to be 1 years old in another 6 months and even though we know that stage will be incredible and so full of life and beauty and joy in it’s own right and that we will be more then thrilled to have a thriving little 1 year old toddler we also know we’ll miss our sweet little 1 day old newborn baby daughter just a little bit too (yes.. I did just cry as I wrote that! lol Silly and sappy.. but true.)!! It’s bittersweet.. but definitely more sweet then bitter. ❤
Measurements – Annabelle is officially fitting into 3-6 month/ 6 month close as of this week! We went to her well visit and she is officially a whopping 13 pounds and 9 ounces which puts her up from the 1% percentile to the 5% percentile for weight! She is also 25 1/2 inches long which means she’s at around the 3% percentile for height! She is all healthy, thriving and full of life though for sure! Our family has started calling her our “Mighty Mouse” because even though she is little she is strong! ❤ Percentiles is one thing we have come to worry less and less about. They have their place and I’m not saying that they should be ignore completely or anything, but people come in all difference shapes and sizes! So if your doctors not worried, and your baby is healthy and happy then who cares how big or how small they are. In our eyes God made Annabelle (and every other baby) just perfect the way she is! Her body size is just right for who He created her to be! That is something we share with her now and we can’t wait to share that with her as she gets older and understands what we’re saying better!
Best Moment – This month Annabelle said her first syllable. And of course in true daddy’s girl fashion it didn’t matter how much I repeated “ma-ma” to her she said “da-da” first. Honestly though we are both just happy that she is experimenting with sounds! It is so fun to listen to her babble to us now! She loves saying “da-da” loud to everyone in the room. She loves saying “da-da” softly to herself in her crib in the morning while she’s waiting for Matt and I to come and wake her up. She even loves whispering it under her breath while someone is holding her! Everything and anything is “da-da” right now!
Worst Moment – There really wasn’t a “worst’ thing this month.. the closest thing we could think of to a “worst’ thing was at best just a difficult transition to figure out. With getting bigger and having more energy Annabelle has been transitioning out of her late evening nap. She used to take a 2 to 1 1/2 hour nap in the early evening every day but in the past month that nap has pretty much dropped all together. Most days she now goes from when she wakes up after her afternoon nap at 3:30 – 4pm until she goes to bed for the night at around 7:30 – 8:00 pm. On the rare occasion that she is extra tired she will take a quick little mini catnap of about 30 minutes, but almost like clock work at around that 30 minute mark she wakes up and is ready to go for the rest of the evening.
Favorite Things – Annabelle’s favorite thing to do as of late is definitely to stick anything and everything she possibly can right in her mouth! For that reason alone I am so glad we baby proofed our home extra early for the in-home daycare. It definitely has it’s advantages since it’s harder for her to get anything dangerous. She loves to give big open mouthed kisses to her daddy and I as well. She doesn’t always make it to our mouth though. Most of the time she plants a big wet one right on our cheeks, or our necks.. or occasionally on our shoulders as she buries her head in our chest or collar bone from the sheer excitement she feels from getting to see us. Needless to say this is hands down our most favorite thing she is doing right now too. It’s just so sweet to see her give affection back to those she loves, and to know that we are two of those people.
Highlights – There was a lot of fun stuff that happened for Annabelle in the past month. For starters she went on her very first road trip! No worries though Annabelles not a world wide traveler just yet. We just went up to Pennsylvania to see her Auntie Em (our cousin Emily) graduate from college and start the next season of her life! It was such a fun visit filled with so many great memories of just hanging out with family, and celebrating Emily as she starts this next season of her life! We couldn’t be more proud of her either! 🙂
Annabelle had her first girls day out with some special friends at a local park one Sunday afternoon! It was so much fun to get out with one of my best friends and her girls and then for dinner we went to Eli’s Barbecue, which was well deserved in our opinion since one of our hubbies was out of town and the other was working lol
Then there was her first Memorial Day weekend filled with a lot of fun first cook outs for her. We had our friend Jessica, her sister Caitlyn and her three sweet babies over for a grill out and to go swimming on Friday, as well as our family over on Sunday too. Annabelle had a lot of fun hanging out with her cousins Mary and Evie and her Uncle John who were in town for a visit as well as the rest of her family.
Annabelle also went down to the creek and explored all that nature has to offer in the summertime when her Uncle John and cousins were in town! We didn’t stay down there fore long or go very far but it was still a fun first!
She ended her first memorial day weekend with her first bon fire and grill out on Grandma’s farm! We had a lot of fun just hanging out, roasting marshmallows and catching fireflies late into the evening together!
Then later in the week since our nieces were in town all week we had them over for a sleepover and girls (plus Uncle Matt lol) night! I am so thankful that God gave Annabelle such an great daddy who loves spending time with all of his family and not only doesn’t mind having a home filled with girls but actually joins in the fun and enjoys their company as well! We made homemade pizza, went swimming, watched a movie, had brownie sundaes for dessert and even had a special donut run before church the next morning!
Last but not least we started taking nightly walks around our neighborhood and up to the park together since Matt got a different schedule that allows us to spend sometime together in the evenings and we also had some sweet friends of ours over for dinner to hang out and celebrate the fact that both our girls are now 6 months!!!
Much Love & Prayer,
Matt & Blair
